ORTHOTICS

Orthotics Assessment and Prescription
Orthotics are insoles or supports that sit inside your shoes to improve biomechanics and joint positions. They are sometimes essential for people who play sports and anyone who has biomechanical-related foot, leg and back pain.
Some of the conditions successfully managed with orthotics include:
Pronation
Knee problems
Back pain
Shin splints
Foot and ankle aches and pains
Prevention of injuries
Hypermobility
Prevention of injuries
Legs of unequal length
Bunions
Planter fasciitis
Mortons neuroma
Foot deformities
Corns and callus
A Biomechanical assessment is done which includes measuring your limb length, muscles tests and gait assessment. We ask you to wear light-fitting clothes or shorts at the knee as we will be doing tests on the couch.
An impression of your feet is taken with plaster of Paris (cast) which makes the insoles you have made for you bespoke or custom made. From these casts, the insoles are made. The casts are kept on file for up to 18 months meaning you don’t need another cast taken if you want a second pair made down the line.
We need an hour's appointment for the session in total. We use Ottoform material to make silicone devices for the lesser toes to help treat hammer toes and bunions, or where toes are rubbing on each other and causing corns.
The cost of the biomechanical assessment is £100 and includes casting when needed. Custom-made orthotics start at £320 for a standard pair. For nearly everyone who needs a pair of custom-made orthotics, the fee will be £100 for the assessment and casting, plus £320 for the orthotics. This makes a total of £420 to pay.
Please note, if you know that you need custom-made orthotics, then please ask for an hours mi appointment when booking. This will allow enough time for the examination and for the casting.
Footwear advice is a big part of what we give every day as Podiatrists alongside our treatments.
The high street has and continues to produce bad-fitting shoes and education is needed in this area. Shoes can cause calluses, blisters and a lack of support for certain activities that people like including walking, hiking, running and going to the gym. Please seek advice on your footwear.
